Seeing three white stripes of a checkmark on sneakers, a person immediately associates them with a certain sports wear brand that means to themselves different features and emotions. An enormous yellow M can even make you feel hungry... The effect these signs inspire should not be ignored because it plays a crucial part in communication with a target group. Unfortunately, in nowadays world logo design is totally under rated. People do not understand how important a professinally created logo is and how valuable it is to their business.

In this post we’d like to out outline some of the many important reasons that make the logo such an important communication tool. And also, why a professional logo design can not cost 10 – 15 levs?

A Logo is…

To explain what a logo aims, firstly we must make it clear what a logo is. A logo’s design has to make immediate recognition, inspiring trust, admiration, loyalty and superiority. The logo is one of the most important aspect of a company’s commercial brand no matter whether it’s about an economic entity, political or cultural institution. That’s why its shapes, colours, fonts, and images should distinguish it form its branch rivals. Logos are also used to identify organisations and other non-commercial entities.

So, naturally, a question rise – why do people very often choose to be bound to a cheap logo design that not only won’t bring positive results but may harm he corporate image as well?

Here we go with a comparison of cheap vs. designer logos.

We have chosen the suggestions that were presented at a logo contest in Digital Point Forums. The assignment was the following:

“Create a logo for the site ‘Spela Piano’. The meaning of the words is Play Piano. This is a site where our members can learn to play piano online.”

Take a look at the responses and decide by yourself whether any one of them has won?

You will notice that for almost all of these logos were used free standard fonts and as a whole the presented logo designs don’t assign to the rules of a good logo – to be describable, memorable, effective without colour and scalable.

Please, ask yourself these questions and judge all by yourself whether these logos are successful:

• How many of the logos can you describe or remember?

• Are these logos effective without colour?

• Are they scalable?

• Do they gain immediate recognition?

• Do they convey the company’s personality, character or attitude?

• Relate to your clients by conveying a feeling of familiarity and credibility?

• Have association with quality and satisfaction of your products?

Professional Logo Design

Now compare these professionally designed logos and answer the same questions….

The difference is remarkable, doesn’t it?

Why are these examples so different? On of the best professional logo designers have already outlined, the process of logo designing involves several stages like research, sketching, conceptualising, and reflection that do not charge 10.00 levs.

The design process of a professional logo designer usually consists of:

1. Brief Definition: A detailed interview with the client is done. It gives the designer an opportunity to get the main logo conception.

2. Research: A research is done – the industry itself, company history, its competitors and so on.

3. Reference: They conduct research into logo designs that have been successful and current styles and trends that are related to the design brief.

4. Sketching & Conceptualising: The logo concept (s) is developed on the base of brief definition and research.

5. Reflection: Designers take breaks throughout their design process. This lets their ideas mature and lets them get renewed enthusiasm and receive feedback.

6. Presentation: Designers choose whether to present only a select few logos to the client or a whole collection.

More Reasons

Here are some more responses from other designers on reasons why logo design does not cost 10 – 15 levs.

1. A logo is the very first impression people get of a company.

2. A logo needs longevity.

3. A logo needs to be original.

4. A logo should look professional.

5. A logo should reflect the time and thought gone in to designing it.

6. A logo is the starting point of your whole corporate image.

How much does a logo cost?

This is the single most frequently asked question, though it is the hardest one to answer.

The cost of a professional logo design is a question that cannot be easily answered. The main problem is that every company has its own different needs, requirements and aims. So the approach should always be individual and original. A number of factors should be considered when designing a logo – for example, how many logo concepts are needed to be presented, how many revisions are required, how much research is needed, the size of the business and so on.
